PMC ESPO (a subsidiary of Transneft) successfully finished implementation of the investment project “Protection System of Oil Trunk Pipeline (PSOTP) as regards Pressure”. The project is meant for securing safe oil transportation in case of increasing capacity of Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean pipeline system (ESPO PS) up to 80 million tons of oil a year.

Construction and assembly works on the project started in April 2016. It was implemented at seven functioning PS (oil pump stations) located in Irkutsk Region, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Amur Region.

In total 14 emergency oil spill tanks and 4 fire water tanks with the capacity of 700 to 5 thousand cubic metres were constructed. Apart from construction of the tanks, the software of automated complexes for operation of pump units at PS and stop valves of the oil pipeline were updated. Besides, units with safety devices, necessary for oil spill into emergency oil spill tanks when it is required to secure decreasing of the pressure level in oil pipeline, were constructed.

After testing, the new equipment was commissioned. Now capacity of ESPO PS is equal to 70 million tons of oil a year. The oil pipeline’s capacity will be increased to the maximum of 80 million after commissioning of three PS No. 2, 5, 7, construction of which started in December 2017.
