PMC ESPO (a subsidiary of Transneft) has laid a siphon (an underwater oil pipeline section) crossing the Krivaya and Chepchiki anabranches as part of the construction of a standby leg of ESPO-2 underwater crossing of the Amur River. The length of the siphon, laid in a bottom trench, is 495 meters.
9 siphons will be laid within the construction of the standby leg of ESPO-2 underwater crossing through the Amur River: 8 of them will cross small watercourses (from 110 to 622 meters in length) and one will be laid across the main stream bed of the Amur. The siphon laid under the Chepchiki and Krivaya anabranches is the fifth one delivered in the course of the project.
The total length of the standby leg of ESPO-2 underwater crossing through the Amur will reach 34.5 km, which is the width of the floodplain covered by water in the spring flood season. This makes the underwater crossing through the Amur one of the longest crossings in the entire ESPO pipeline system.
The development of a bottom trench for laying a siphon under the main bed of the Amur will start after the spring ice drifting. This stage is most challenging within the project. The river’s width at the site of the underwater crossing of ESPO-2 oil pipeline exceeds 2,500 m. The length of the standby leg siphon will reach 2,785 m. PMC ESPO will set to laying the siphon into the bottom trench in Q3 2018.
The construction on the standby leg of ESPO-2 underwater crossing through the Amur will enhance the reliability and safety of the pipeline system. Another six underwater crossings of the second phase of ESPO at the section from Skovorodino PS (pumping station) No 21 to Kozmino oil port will be outfitted with standby legs until 2025.
